Fen-Phen – Fen Phen, which is the drug cocktail of Pondimin and Redux, was prescribed to people who were looking to lose weight. The side effects, however, could be life threathening and persist years after ceasing to take the drug. The generic form of Pondimin is Fenfluramine, and the generic form of Redux is Dexfenfluramine. Thus the name Fen Phen.
In 1997, Fen-Phen was removed from the market by Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories after pressure from the FDA when it was discovered that Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH) and Heart Valve Disease was caused by use of the drug. Unfortunately, it may take years for the symptoms to surface and they may then be misdiagnosed.
You may have PPH if you notice or experience some of these symptoms: trouble breathing after moderate exercise, constantly feeling very tired and weak, passing out or fainting, swelling of the ankles and feet, a blue color in the lips and fingers, or chest pain. If you have taken Fen-Phen and notice these side effects, you should visit a doctor immediately and inquire as to whether or not you have PPH.
If you or your loved one was prescribed or ingested Fen-Phen and have been diagnosed with PPH or have suffered Heart Valve Disease, or suffered any other side effects that you believe may have been caused by Fen-Phen, please fill out the form below for a free evaluation.
